Destination Of The Species: The Riddle
What Michael Meacher seeks to do in this book is rather to assess the evidence - the whole range of it - without a predetermined worldview as a premise, and to decide, as objectively as possible, what the evidence on balance points to. He stood for the leadership of the Labour party in In this powerful and topical book Michael Meacher examines the post-Darwin arguments for God and the meaning of life, and challenges both believers and unbelievers to reconsider their assumptions.
I believe it will be read, studied and admired by those who have been puzzled by the complexity of our existence -- Tony Benn, Politician and former Labour Party MP Is spirituality as well as curiosity part of the human condition?

Nature’s Wide-Eyed Riddle
Condition: New. Language: English. Brand New Book. There is really only one question for human beings that in the end matters. That is, what if any is the purpose of existence, and what are we here for?
It is a question that has underlain religious conviction and philosophic inquiry throughout human history, and to which scientific rationalism in recent centuries has added some important insights. It highlights two contesting views of the nature of reality: is there a purpose behind the universe, and if so, is the evolution of man somehow related to that purpose, or is it a mechanistic universe driven by blind natural forces in which there is no ultimate purpose and no meaning of life?
Or is there indeed some alternative third explanation? What Michael Meacher seeks to do in this book is rather to assess the evidence - the whole range of it - without a predetermined world view as a premise, and to decide, as objectively as possible, what the evidence on balance points to. Your interview on Coast to Coast was excellent and I look forward to buying reading your book. Regardless, you acquitted yourself very well. I agree that your point of view that the natural laws that govern the function of the universe are to well tuned to be random in their origins. Moreover you correctly stated that for a creator-god to create beings with whom he was to have a meaningful relationship required that there be free choice, free will, on both parts to imbrace or reject the conditions for that relationship.
From that wrong choice we see the deadly disease of evil everywhere around and in us today. However, that wrong choice did not deter the God of the Bible from re-establishing the lost relationship. He first promices and then sends a deliver who permanantly deals with the disease of evil in our lives.

Did God validate his sacrifice on the cross by raising him from the dead? The lives of the eye wittnesses who saw him raised from the dead were totally transformed. Perhaps these are the kind of people you are longing to find in this world. Hi, another Coast listener, great show.
Primeminister Meacher! I was surprised to hear you on coast to coast, enjoyed the show. I live in Chelmsford UK we download the shows off of the internet. You have explored related questions about the universe, evolution and spirituality coherently. Personally, having asked myself a number of these questions in a far more superficial way, I found this very helpful. On the other hand, we have the fine tuning of the natural constants, the organic network of the Earth as Gaia, and cooperation rather than competition apparently more important in evolution as factors favouring design.
The book concludes with a Glossary of technical terms and a list of References relevant to each chapter but, regrettably, no Index. Previous Next. O Books, , pp.
