Combining creative process enquiry and arts-based supervision, this symposium offers professional development for anyone already supervising, or for those wanting to move into art therapy supervision. The symposium is the first of a series of annual professional development courses in art therapy supervision.
This year's event will cover theoretical aspects of supervision with arts-based approaches to strength-based, culturally responsive and sensitive supervision. The Art of Art Therapy Supervision will focus on training art therapy supervisors and educators as well as providing an opportunity for exploring issues in supervision.

It is intended for both experienced and emerging art therapy supervisors and educators. Supervision workshops held by master supervisors will offer the opportunity to work on professional supervision issues and explore questions. She holds a focus on intersectionality and cultural considerations in art therapy supervision. She will introduce exercises exploring parallel processes, and transference dynamics in supervision. Monica utilizes a variety of art and poetry directives for arts-based supervision.
The Art of Art Therapy Supervision: A Three-Day Symposium for Art Therapists
Her underlying focus is strength-based, and she brings an environmental awareness to art therapy education. She is an art therapist, educator, supervisor, author and filmmaker.
She approaches supervision as a positive learning space for inquiry, reflection, compassion and transformation. She is currently a supervisor and faculty member at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute and has a private supervision and therapy practice. She views art therapy supervisors as essentially training shape-shifters that can provide the opportunity for transformational supervision. She is a faculty member at Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.

Combining international work on restorative justice, photo-voice, and the use of art therapy and environmental education, we will learn art-based exercises to help communities clarify issues and concerns. Groundwater is a KATI initiative for Indigenous-centred art therapy education within the context of decolonization and reconciliation. Led by Indigenous art therapists, knowledge keepers and Elders, Groundwater explores the role of creativity and art in Indigenous approaches to healing, and the therapeutic value of our connection to the natural world.
