Song without words No.29 (3. Venetian Gondola) Op.62 No. 5 - Piano
Everything dies away pianissimo. From the lugubrious to the joyous, the Song without Words Op. There are dramatic, quasi-orchestral sounds here, hints of folk-dance with skirling bagpipes perhaps we take the title too seriously , and a relentless night-ride. Altogether a beautiful disc that has seldom been off my CD player in the last few days. Nicholas Salwey, International Record Review, September [the Berg Sonata] receives the most commanding performance…an entirely convincing reading to rank alongside the finest.
Musical Opinion, March — April …hugely enjoyable performance… outstanding calibre.

He has nonchalant technique, winning sensitivity and commanding authority. He ripples, he ruminates and he sparkles. He is also wilful.
This attribute renders his performance vital and distinctive. He sprang into action with positively overt eccentricity, striking up a potent double act with Balsom — devilish protagonist meets elegant diva. Here is a young artist of exceptional talent and confidence, making musical sense of all he played. Alasdair is rightly earning an international reputation and we are fortunate to hear this first class pianist as he ascends to the top of his profession.
The performance had star quality with playing of maturity and musicianship. His technical hallmarks are precision, clarity and lightness of touch; there is no splashy, hit-or-miss playing in his armoury.
The songs above are too difficult. Can PianoMaestro help me if I am a beginner?

The key is f-sharp minor. The piece begins with an introduction of six measures: it does not contain a thematic material, but its characteristic accompaniment introduces the general mood of the barcarole, and it is maintained throughout most of the work.
Hand Dupre Guitar Duo | Songs Without Words CD
The first part is a one-tone repeated thematic structure, consisting of two phrases, with a brightly expressed exposition type of setting. The first phrase ends with a middle cadence, the second phrase ends with a perfect authentic cadence, which rounds out the first part. The melody, starting from the third stage, moves rather smoothly, with the jumps filling out the on-going counter-movement on one side and balanced in jumps in the opposite direction on the other. Each of the melodies, lasting for eight measures, has a close resemblances of a vocal line.
The third section of the sequence is modified and continued ascending movement in the melodic f-sharp minor measures The loudness dynamics is increasing, from f to ff and sfz. The tension is gradually amplified, but suddenly the development in the melody is interrupted by the unstable dominant harmony, on the third on the VII raised scale tone in the fifth octave of the f-sharp minor measure The melodic movement resumes only after almost two measures: after diminuendo in accompaniment, a trill sounds on c-sharp of the sixth octave in the melody on pp , leading to a climax on the tone of the e of the sixth octave sounding on sfz measure
